Nanking -- a book
I have been reading an interesting book, "The Good Man of Nanking: The Diaries of John Rabe." In short, John Rabe was an expatriate German businessman, and Hitler-loving Nazi, who lived for about 30 years in China.
Rabe and others are credited with saving the lives of many Chinese in the face of the Japanese invasion. Rabe had a fondness for Chinese but was realistic about the circumstances.
Multiple instances are quoted from his diaries regarding the savagery of Chinese toward other Chinese, or ill-trained or ill-equipped Chinese troops, or officers abandoning their men, and using a safety zone they established which was supposed to be free of troops and weapons.
It was agreed that the safety zone would be free of Chinese troops and weapons in exchange for Japanese leaving it alone.
According to Rabe, the Chinese troops violated their word by hiding in the safety zone among civilians to avoid attack from Japanese, or even used it to attack Japanese. According to Rabe, many of the Chinese soldiers also had shed their uniforms.
Needless to say, shedding uniforms and hiding among civilians is a recipe for disaster.
This is not meant as a book review -- but to acknowledge Rabe's words as quoted.

Japanese historians estimate that nearly 70,000 Japanese Army Soldiers participated in the battle of Nanking. After the fall of Nanking, 120 newspaper reporters entered into the city along with the vanguard forces of various divisions. Therefore there are many reports, photos, and memoirs remain today. During 1980s and 1990s, many Japanese researchers actively tackled the issue of “Nanking Massacre” and by 2005, most of them concluded there were NO massacre at all, although there were thousands of casualties of war. Many books were published by researchers such as Tanaka Masaaki, Higashi-nakano Osamichi, and Ara Kennichi. However, since those are all written in Japanese, they are simply ignored by American/European people who believe in Rape of Nanking written by Iris Chang.
I decided to become a researcher myself in order to put useful materials on my website on False Accusations of Nanking Massacre, as Chinese Communist Party constantly come up with this issue in order to use the historical events as part of their diplomatic manipulation.

I hope Mr. Michael Yon has an opportunity to talk to Mr. Henry Scott Stokes, an Englishman and former Financial Times Reporter stationed in Tokyo. He has entirely different views to the Japan’s War from those commonly accepted in the U.S.

One of my close friends asked a young Chinese student staying in Tokyo.
“How do you think about the Nanking Massacre?”
Then, the young man asked my friend saying; “Which one?”
Since there were many Nanking Massacres in the long history of China, people never know which Nanking Massacre he is taking about without specifying the year or the period.
After learning the episode from my friend, I searched my books and found out there were at least five Nanking Massacres prior to 1937.
Oh, my….my…..
