日本と慰安婦 — 売春婦はどこにでも

この件について，いろいろな国で調べれば調べるほど（すぐにフィリピンに戻るが），このウサギの巣穴はどこまでも深く続いている．日本はアジアで数十万人をセックス奴隷にするために誘拐したと，韓国と中国は言っている — 20万人から40万人だ — しかし実際のところ，当時，日本軍や米国海軍が海を越えてやってくる前から，そこではどこを見ても巨大な売春婦産業が存在した．

カリフォルニア，グレンデールの慰安婦像に，そこには二度訪れたことがあるが，フィリピンとタイの国名がプレートに記載されている．さも日本に対して苦言を呈しているかのように．私はタイに住んでいる．ここで日本の慰安婦の件について調べているのだ．慰安婦についての文句を言う者などタイにはいない．

今月，フィリピンへの調査から戻った．今後，調査を続けるためにまたフィリピンに戻る．他の国にも調査に行く．

フィリピンは数百年に渡って売春婦で有名である．スペインなどは活気に満ちた売春婦ビジネスをフィリピンで展開していた．米国はそれをもっとでかくしたが，第二次大戦中は日本軍が数年間にわたって支配し売春婦を使役した．それからマッカーサーが戻ってきて米軍がもっとでかくした．そして多くの米国人が残ったが，あいかわらずフィリピンは売春宿で有名だ．

冗談はよしてくれ．日本は韓国人やフィリピン人をセックス奴隷にするために誘拐する必要なんて無かった．彼らは売春婦が入ってこないように基地をガードしなければいけなかったろう．アメリカの入国管理局は，2015年，韓国の売春婦が米国内で巨大な売春婦ビジネスを展開しないように目を光らせることで手一杯だった．

「米軍兵士のための売春婦の役割は「軍事上の必需品」であるとタフトは認識していた．」

Japan and Comfort Women -- Prostitution everywhere 

The more I study this issue in various country (soon to return to Philippines), the deeper this rabbit hole goes. The Koreans and Chinese pretend that Japanese stomped around Asia kidnapping hundreds of thousands of sex-slaves -- 200,000 to 400,000 -- but in fact every where one looks, there was a huge prostitution industry before the Japanese Army and Navy set sail.

Inscribed on the Comfort Woman memorial statue in Glendale, California, which I have twice visited, Philippines and Thailand are named on the plaque, as if these countries hold claims against Japan. I live in Thailand and have researched the Japanese comfort women issue. There are no claims from Thailand. 

This month I returned from a research trip to Philippines, and am preparing to return to continue the research in the Philippines and other countries. 

Philippines has been famous for prostitution for centuries. The Spanish and others built a vibrant prostitution business in the Philippines. Americans built it bigger, then the Japanese swept in for a few years during WWII and used the prostitutes. Then MacArthur came back and US forces did it bigger still, and then Americans mostly left and Philippines remains as famous as ever for its brothels.

Let's not kid ourselves. The Japanese did not have to kidnap Koreans or Filipinas as sex-slaves. They may have had to put guards at the bases to keep them out. In 2015, US immigration is having fits preventing Korean prostitutes from creating a giant industry in the US.

War that broke out in 1899, and the scorched-earth policies adopted

Taft reported the conditions obtaining in the Philippines during the
early years of American rule:"

of the Philippines were the Japanese, because cheap labor was
needed for the construction of roads and bridges, military camps, etc.
It was brothel operations, however, which were the most prosperous
among the occupations of the Japanese community in Manila.
Of the thirty-five Japanese-operated brothels, thirty-two were in
Sampaloc, Manila."

"Taft recognized the role served by the prostitutes for the American
soldiers as "a military necessity." Towards this end, the American
military authorities, through the Provost Marshall office, established
a red-light district in 1901 apparently to control the spread
of venereal diseases among the American soldier. [footnote]"
